The Tour De Bintan is one of the more organised races in the region and features leg busting rolling terrain in 38 degree heat. This year its part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series allowing qualification for the amateur world champs.
Due to the inclusion in the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, the race has become a race within a race. If you wish to qualify for the UCI world champs then the important events are the 17km time trial on the Friday and the 140km road stage on the Saturday.
For many, performing well on these days and qualifying might be the primary aim, and Sunday's stage might be a little subdued in comparison. But there will still be many going for the overall win for the 3 days in Sprint, KOM and GC categories.
Project852 entered a team last year in CAT2 and came away with the KOM jersery and the Sprint Jersey! This year, to fit in with the UCI regulations, the race will be split into age groups making it a very different prospect. Full details can be found on the official website.
